HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering Secures 2.8 Trillion Won in Orders in Just 6 Days

HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE), the intermediate holding company of HD Hyundai’s shipbuilding division, announced on Jan. 10 that it has secured contracts for 25 vessels with shipowners located in Europe, Oceania, Asia, and the Middle East. The contracts, totaling 2.82 trillion won (US$2.14 billion), were signed over a six-day period from Jan. 4 to 9.

The vessels secured in these contracts include two large ammonia carriers, 15 medium-sized product carriers (PC), six large liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carriers, and two liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers.

On Jan. 6, the company secured an order for two large-scale ammonia carriers with a capacity of 88,000 cubic meters from a shipping company in Oceania. These vessels boast the largest size that can pass through the Panama Canal and are equipped with LPG dual-fuel propulsion engines. The contract is valued at a total of 317.3 billion won, and the vessels will be constructed at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries’ facility in Ulsan, with delivery scheduled to the shipowner in the first half of 2027.

On Jan. 8, the company secured an order for 15 medium-sized PC ships from a shipping company in Asia totaling 942.5 billion won. The vessels have dimensions of 183 meters in length, 32.2 meters in width, and 19.1 meters in height. They will be constructed at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in Ulsan and delivered sequentially to the shipowner by the second half of 2026.

Furthermore, on Jan. 9, the company secured an order from a shipping company in the Middle East for four 88,000-cubic-meter LPG carriers equipped with dual-fuel propulsion engines and two 174,000-cubic-meter LNG carriers. The total contract amount is 1.26 trillion won, and all six vessels will be constructed at Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries in Yeongam, South Jeolla Province, with delivery scheduled to the shipowner by the second half of 2027.

Earlier on Jan. 4, the company announced its first order of the year by signing a construction contract for two 88,000-cubic-meter LPG carriers.
